1. The Fire Dragon
© Dada Nabhaniilananda 1976
Can I tell You how I love you? More
than words can ever tell
Even now the blissful vision's passing,
leaving me forever caught within Your
spell
The magic of Your light surrounds me,
even when I cannot see
The clarion call of Your trumpets blowing,
has finally come to me
Like a Fire Dragon in the darkness,
Your sweet light is cast all about
May I worship You my Fire Dragon? May
I fall upon my face before You God?
May I serve and play some small part
in Your game? May I strike a blow for
Truth?
May I be Your tool and bring to all
Your light? May I sit in Your sweet
lap forevermore?
None of these things do I really want
my Lord, it just sounds so nice to say
Just to please You Lord that's all I
want today, just to love You more, that
much I will ask, I know I may.
Can I tell You how I love you? More
than words can ever tell
Even now the blissful vision's passing,
leaving me forever caught within Your
spell.
2. Sweetest Baba
© Dada Nabhaniilananda 1979
In Sam'skrta the word Baba means "Beloved"
and is used as a term of ultimate affection
for that Supreme Entity who is always
caring for and loving each one of us.
I know where I have seen that sweet
face once before
I remember long ago I saw You smiling
from a star
Sweetest Baba how I Iong to see Your
face
Sweetest Baba, how I love to feel Your
Grace
Sweetest Baba, how I long to give my
all to You.
I know where I have heard that sweet
voice once before
On a lonely moonlit night I heard You
calling from afar.
Sweetest Baba, how I love to call Your
name ,
Sweetest Baba, how I love to play Your
game
Sweetest Baba, it's all an endless loving
song to You
I know where I have felt that sweet
touch once before
It woke a feeling in my heart that will
remain forevermore
Sweetest Baba, won't You take me in
Your arms
Like a child in Your endless loving
calm
Sweetest Baba, giving glimpses of Your
mind
Sweetest Baba, showing how I've been
so blind
Sweetest Baba, time and time again You
come
Sweetest Baba, You know You are my only
one
Sweetest Baba, how can I ever forget
You now?
3. Dewdrop in the Dawn
© Dada Nabhaniilananda 1978
When the wolves of night are close upon
my trail
And I'm exhausted and I fear my strength
might fail me
And all the tricks I've tried have been
to no avail
Then I find You standing near.
Here I am a single dewdrop in the dawn
And as the rising suns' light catches
me I am transformed
Into a soul in flight, a spirit newly
born
I awake as You take form.
But all that I can think is how I love
You
All I can do is surrender, at Your Lotus
Feet
at Your Lotus Feet
A glimpse of You has left me yearning
for the day
When I may walk with You upon some cosmic
way
I know You yearn for me too, Lord what
can I say
Baba I am amazed.
Your magic love surrounds us brighter
than the sun,
You are the one whose glory stretches
on and on
I see a million minds I see there's
only one
Watching over, loving all.
And all that I can think is how I love
You
All that I can think is how I love You
All I can do is surrender, at Your Lotus
Feet
at Your Lotus Feet
Baba Nam Kevalam
Baba Nam Kevalam is a Sam'skrta mantra
intended for devotional chanting in
preparation for meditation. I t roughly
translates as " Everything is a
manifestation of the Supreme Consciousness".
4. Unknown Traveller (Ajana
Pathik)
© Dada Nabhaniilananda 1983
All hail the "Ajana Pathik"
, the mystical being who witnesses all
our thoughts and deeds, and guides us
on our spiritual journey in mysterious
ways.
Oh Unknown Traveller , You heard my
cry, I don't know why I was so lonely
You took my hand to guide me through
the mists of ages
I live again to see Your smile, such
strange enchantment
And everyone I pass reminds me of You
And at every point I touch Your unseen
realm.
I often wonder if You have been that
unseen friend I can depend on
I love that feeling, to know You're
near , a love so dear
Why don't we just float away?
They'll never know our destination
They'll never know we're gone.
Oh Unknown Traveller, You hide Your
face, and in it's place there is a question
I dare not ask the shining mask.
"Do you trust me, to lead you on
beyond the darkness?"
Then I throw myself in anguish at the
wind
But I close my eyes and catch You in
my fear.
Can't you see your destiny, shining
like a path before you , Your heart
forever free?
Just touch my heart so I can love You,
You open my eyes and let me see
All of the years that I have sought
You, all of the time You were with me
And You're all that I ever want to be,
You know everything I think, do and
see
And somehow I feel You inside of me,
And I sense the magic of You very free.
5. Lead Me Onward
© Dada Nabhaniilananda 1983
Like a rain of crystal shadows in the
night
There's a cloud of shifting thought
obscures my sight
Hidden in a mist of mystery You stand
If I reach for You all I get is empty
hands
If I offer my whole self right at Your
feet
That's the only way to persuade You
to stay with me.
Cloud of mystery gives birth to spark
of light
Floating to me and I catch it holding
tight
In my hands I hold in awe a holy word
Baba Nam Kevalam Baba Nam Kevalam
Again and again I perceive that it is
all the same
Over and over now I cry that I want
only You
Yet Your mystery evades me still.
Take my hands and lead me onward through
the night
Take me in Your loving arms and hold
me tight
Take my pain to sow as stars across
the sky
Take my eyes that are so dazzled by
Your light
Take my heart entrusted to Your loving
care
Take my thoughts that I may see the
truth laid bare
Take my oath now that I offer all to
thee
Take my life, it's not my own.
6. The Renunciates Song
© Dada Nabhaniilananda 1983
You are the only one, beyond time, beyond
rhyme or reason
You are the greatest one, beyond space,
beyond all lands and seasons
How can I sing to You my Lord when You
are sound itself?
For how in song are You described without
a sound?
How can I love You Lord, when You are
love itself?
How can I worship You my master.
You are the only One, beyond time, beyond
rhyme or reason
You are the Perfect One beyond mind,
beyond all manifestation
What can I do for You My Lord, to express
my love for You
For how in song are You described without
a sound?
I know just what I'll do now that I
feel Your love abound
I'll give my life into Your service.
I'll uproot mountains that have dared
to disobey Your will
I'll bring them bound before You just
to show You love them still
I'll change the world the way You want,
I'll take Your message far and wide
And when I'm done if You so wish I will
return to Your side.
For You're the only one I love, and
I won’t part from You
Not if a sea of evil standeth in my
way.
For You're the only one I know, I see
Your face in all faces,
And all the places that I go I see that
You've been there before
You are my only love my Lord, and if
I'm crying in my sleep
You say," My child, do not weep,
for I am Yours' forevermore."
7. Starlight
© Dada Nabhaniilananda 1979
Like starlight shining onwards all around
me
Remember that dark dark night when all
alone
A clear stream of conscious footprints
lead me from my home
A clear call, my restless spirit brought
me to Your feet
Like starlight Your haunting music stirs
the shifting mountain air
The shadow of an angel flies across
my grave
I'm touched my Your loving hand that
reached across the night
I know now that Your enchantment never
fades
You took me to worlds undreamed of,
floating in a vision
And showed me reality to which I'd been
so blind
And spells that were woven long ago
bear fruit at last
My heart finds fulfilment in Your hands
caress.
So sadly I came to You, a child without
father
But just like a ship that by the tide
has lain long stranded
I thrill now to feel Your flowing sea
beneath my soul
I gaze no more mournfully across the
burning sand.
Like starlight, shining onwards all
around me
The shadow of an angel flies across
my grave
And spells that were woven long ago
bear fruit at last
I know now that Your enchantment never
fades.
8. Winters End
© Dada Nabhaniilananda 1978
The earth is frozen in the cruel grip
of a long winter, love is dying in the
world, all is cold and still. Then the
harbinger of the dawn comes, the Great
Leader. The peoples hearts are awakened
with new hope by his love, they are
roused to combat and defeat the evil,
and springs sweet light spreads over
the land again.
On a cold winters morning a dewdrop
formed in the icy dawn
But the coldness of the snow around
reflected in it turning it to stone.
A tinkling stream is playing on the
icicles a sad refrain,
In the snow of a nearby village children’s
tricycles are lonely and forgotten.
My mind clutches at these wondrous icicles
that are hanging here,
In the stillness of this eerie night,
alone beneath the trees in the forest.
Beautiful it may seem, but the ice edge
is sharp
Cutting my clutching hand, crimson tears
stain the snow
Pain all around me now , God how it
hurts to know.
Floating in Gods heaven all alone,
Winters small creatures lie, dying amidst
the snow
They are too small to flee, they are
too cold to cry.
Winters chill, spell of night, dark
magic binds the world
Frozen are human hearts, we crowd close
worlds apart
Lonely cries paid no heed, Love is all,
that we need.
The dewdrop awakes now in the morning
sun of the godly one
Who has come at last and brings the
spring, who's calling us to fight for
our freedom.
Fire of love burns now in hearts of
heroes,
Wielding our swords of light, warriors
gather now,
Now is time to unite, humanity awake.
Here is our leader now, see the master
Himself
Glorious golden one, shining like dragon
fire
Darkness retreats before, Dharma is
our desire.
In the chill spring of morning a dewdrop
formed and the rising sun,
Caught the curve of liquid, tensions
vessel, shining for a moment like the
dawn.
Heralding Winters End, harbinger springs
return,
Golden wings open wide, bliss dawning
in my mind
Breaking the chains at last, Baba, the
Lord is here.
And the dewdrop , awake now in a springtime
land where the air is clear but warm
the sunlight touches all our hearts,
so many dewdrops in the dawn.
9. 1000 Cranes
© Dada Nabhaniilananda 1988
Sadako Sasaki was 2 years old when the
atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima.
She survived the bombing but developed
leukaemia when she was 11. When she
was in hospital a friend told her that
if you fold 1000 paper cranes the gods
may grant her a wish. So she bravely
folded cranes until she died a few months
later. She completed more than 1000.
She is remembered by children all over
Japan and her memorial stands in Hiroshima
today.
Sadako Sasaki your name rings on down
through the years Though you were just
a child when you died
Sadako Sasaki will you make a thousand
cranes for me Let magic bring good fortune
once again
That all the children we have borne
don't die in vain Lest all the wonders
of this world perish in flame
That all the children we have borne
don't die in vain Lest all the wonders
of this world perish in flame
We will make a thousand cranes to make
you well As you live on in our minds
on your star island
We will sing a thousand songs to make
them hear us Why should it take a thousand
suns to bring us peace?
Tears can never bring the dead to life
again
We will never let them end our world
Tears can never bring the dead to life
again
We will never let them end our world
Sadako Sasaki your name rings on down
through the years Though you were just
a child when you died.
10. Winds of Change
© Dada Nabhaniilananda 1984
Can you feel the wind, it stirs my soul
and lifts it high to catch a glimpse
of heavens distant sky, lead me on towards
my home.
Await the One, with loves' sweet pain
burning patterns in my heart to weave
a space between the stars, there You
are.
Can You feel the stillness, of the cold
before the dawn, the calm before the
storm about to break and bear us on
towards Your light.
Chorus: Can you feel the wind awakening
your hearts , it may be gentle but it's
true
Can you see the new dawn breaking through
the darkness, is it happening to you?
I love Your smile, it takes my heart
in a tender loving hold that tells me
never to let go, not fade away from
loves true flame
I see Your tears like diamonds falling
catch my heart to cast down my despair,
I need not fear the darkest night.
A thousand winds have bourn us high
then died their fury gone to set us
down just one stage further on towards
our home
A thousand suns have shone their light
on our long struggle, fed the flame
of hope that never dies, that leads
us on...
A thousand times, the leaves have turned
burnt orange, fallen spinning, still
our journey seems to have no end, in
the wind I hear You call.
Chorus
Will You be my love, I'll wait for You
though the world may pass away and only
You and I remain, I'll feel the same.
11. Song for Freedom
© Dada Nabhaniilananda 1978
“Age of Anandam” means “Age
of Bliss”
Vigilance they say is the price of freedom
A small price surely for eternal glory
Listen carefully can You hear the anguish
Of a lonely people crying for salvation?
Look around you, can you see the sadness
written with cruel strokes on peoples
faces?
Chorus:
Awake now there is a road to freedom
You who have the courage now must take
it
Awake humankind in your darkest hour
For the age of Anandam is at hand.
See here how the blessed wind of fortune
Has blown to you a chance of many life
times
Humanity is waiting for your greatness
to shine through you and break their
chains of darkness.
Chorus:
Awake now there is a road to freedom
You who have the courage now must take
it
Rise up and sing in joy this song for
Freedom
For the Age of Anandam is at hand.
