1. Perfect Love
© 1995 Dada Nabhaniilananda

A wild bird flies onward through the night crossing lands unknown
And should it pass through all the trials of distant flight
In the end its' instinct brings it home.
So long in darkness did I walk but love still drew me on
I wandered far within your realm of ancient light listening to the distance for Your song.

Whose heart is this that beats just next to mine
Who holds me close and lights the way
I feel our love grow with the passing of the time
It's always been this way.
I know now You're the one Who's always watching over me
and if I love You, can you blame me, When you're the one who came to set me free.

What is the reason for this clear romantic sky?
I never dreamed my search might finally lead
to a love so pure it's never going to end.

Whose heart is this that beats just next to mine
Who holds me close and lights the way
I feel our love grow with the passing of the time
It's always been this way.

I know now You're the one Who's always watching over me
and if I love You, can you blame me, When you're the one who came to set me free.

I know now that Yours is the perfect love That I've been waiting for
And if I search through all the stars far above
I don't believe I'll find anything more.

I know now that Yours is the perfect love That I've been waiting for
And if I search through all the stars far above
I don't believe I'll find anyone more beautiful than You.

2. No Distance
© 1998 Dada Nabhaniilananda

You said no distance is too great
No time too long to wait
If you’re sure your love is true

I will always want to be
Part of your reality
Let the memory survive
Till the moment I arrive
In the world behind your eyes
Until I realise
That you are me too

When I see the stars so high above
I’m reminded of Your love
and I wonder where you are.....
You are all I want to be, I’ll never let You go
You’re everything to me

I will always want to be
Part of your reality
Let the memory survive
Till the moment I arrive
In the world behind your eyes
Until I realise
That you are me too

You are all I want to be, I’ll never let You go
You’re everything to me
You are all I want to be, I’ll never let You go
You’re everything to me

I’m waiting here so patiently, for when You look at me,
You take my thoughts and set my spirit free

I don’t think I imagined it, I heard you speak to me
with words of love and sacred mystery

Hold me tight, I fear the way ahead
may take me from my place,
Blissful here in Your embrace.

Even in the darkest night
When all hope seems lost from sight
Of ever seeing my love again
I know
A time will come when all will be resolved
And all my love returned
A thousand fold,
A thousand fold

3. Do You Remember Me?
©1994 Dada Nabhaniilananda

Why are we talking, careful lest the spell we've wrought be broken Words all too often mar
the magic of a love unspoken

Where am I walking, with no sky above, no earth beneath my feet
as I stumble, through this world you’ve made, so full of love?
What is the reason for this flight of love,
these stars above that change with the seasons?

Do you remember me? I don't believe I'll ever forget you
If You could only see how long I searched for someone just like You

A soft voice in the silence when I'm sorrowful or feeling lonely
A shoulder I can cry on with assurance that you love me only
A child in those joyful moments when I want to play and tease you
Someone to accept my gifts with joy when i just want to please you
Like dancers in the sunlight, hand in hand we run so light across the world,
Love in the moonlight, sharing secrets as the stars unfurl

You are my sunset to sadness, let the softness of your night enfold me,
I'm so glad that in the darkness You are here to hold me
See how the angels wing protects us when we least expect it,
tears fall forgotten, shining in the silver moon reflected.

Do you remember me? I don't believe I'll ever forget you
If You could only see how long I searched for someone just like You

4. Hou Yi Shooting the Suns
© 1984 Dada Nabhaniilananda
Many years ago a friend of mine returned from a period studying in China, and showed us some photographs he’d taken. Amongst them was a painting entitled “Hou Yi Shooting the Suns” by a highly talented young man, who’d been forced to work in secret in a stone cell, as he was considered a subversive by the government.
This painting depicts “Hou Yi” a figure from Chinese mythlogy. He appeared at a time when the world was oppressed by the heat of nine suns. The hero Hou Yi climbed a mountain and shot down eight of the nine suns with his great bow, leaving us just one, and saving the people.
Later, after the Tiananmen square protests and massacre of the students by troops, I modified the lyrics to commemorate their struggle.

Stone stares at my face, two paces to the left, two right
Though stone meets my outstretched hand,
this is where my heart must flame again.

Here I sit before my cell wall,
seeing far off faces, in far off places,
painting secret dreams of times to come

On the mountain peak he dared,
straining in the burning air,
Firing arrows, flaming hair,
suns a'falling everywhere
Hou Yi shot the suns, shot the suns.

Freedom, how they loved their freedom
Crying for Salvation
But now it’s lost again

For Freedom cries the heart
For Freedom cries the heart
For Freedom, all across the world

I still see a sea of faces
Shining with a new hope
Of freedom
Filling all Tiananmen that day.

A thousand hands in protest raised
A thousand stars that briefly blazed
Do you remember anyone
Who marched there in that scarlet sun?
Hou Yi shot the suns, shot the suns

Hou Yi, Hou Yi, Hou Yi, Hou Yi
Hou Yi shot the suns, shot the suns

Freedom, how they loved their freedom
How they cherished freedom
All across the world

For Freedom cries the heart
For Freedom cries the heart
For Freedom, all across the world

5. The Chant of Pemulwuy
© 1989 Dada Nabhaniilananda

About two hundred years ago the British invaded Australia, declaring it uninhabited in order to justify their claim to sovereignty. All news of resistance was suppressed by the British, but resistance there was, and many deeds of courage were left unsung.
Pemulwuy of the Eora people was a tribal leader and medicine man who united the tribes near Sydney, to fight in invaders. He swore never to use the weapons of the white men as he considered them to be evil. People believed this gave him special power, and that he could not be killed by those weapons.
On one occasion he was wounded and captured, bound hand and foot in chains and kept in a guarded cell. Then his people began a chant, which continued for five days and five nights. On the fifth night Pemulwuy disappeared and was soon seen leading his warriors against the whites again.

In this land my spirit is ever free,
Iron chains can never hold me long
You think that you are free, but there’s a world that i know to be
more real than this dream and we all belong there.

In this land my spirit is ever free,
Iron chains can never hold me long
You think that you are free, but there’s a world that i know to be
more real than this dream and we all belong there.

I don’t regret my 12 year fight, we fought you well, we had the
right
But could not win, for we were new
To you harsh world

Walk with me, but cast a veil before my eyes, filled with tears by a
sight too sad too see
Take my bleeding land and, make it whole again, green like the
time when our world was filled with trees.

The chant began and built a sound
That spread far up through and around,
The flowing streams and gum tree glades
into the mountains far away.

Where warriors dead spirits walk
In the bush, across the hills
Amidst the memories and ghosts
With my secret war my dreams are filled.

A song that echoed on and on
drew me back where I belong
i lay there wounded in a trance
But in the dreamtime world I danced.

Walk with me, but cast a veil before my eyes, filled with tears by a
sight too sad too see
Take my bleeding land and, make it whole again, green like the
time when our world was filled with trees.

6. A Dream
© 1997 Dada Nabhaniilananda

Once I had dream in which all of the alphabet ordered themselves
in a book, with an ancient and mystical look

Then I turned around and walked into that hidden place where I’d
not yet dared to look, surprised at the courage it took.

If you ever see me alone
Don’t rest easy
Cause it means I’m far from my home.

I heard that you’re everywhere, I know that theory
But ‘till I feel Your hand in my hair I remain weary

Wanna always be with You
Wanna stay close to You
Never wanna go anywhere
if you aren’t there too

Wanna stay right by You
Never wanna leave you behind
Never wanna go any
if you’re not there.

If I ever want to see through the dark glass clearly
Into the world full of light, Its centre incredibly bright

Do I even want to see through the dark glass clearly
Into that world full of light, there waits a wonderful sight

If you ever see me alone, just rest easy
Cause it means I’m dreaming of home

I see now, you’re everywhere
It’s not just theory
I can feel your hand in my hair

If I ever want to see through the dark glass clearly…….

Wanna always be with You
Wanna stay close to You
Never wanna go anywhere
if you aren’t there too

Wanna stay right by You
Never wanna leave you behind
Never wanna go any
if you’re not there

7. Lake gardens
© 1997 Dada Nabhaniilananda

In 1990 my spiritual master, Shrii Shrii Anandamurti departed from this world. I had spent many beautiful moments with Him at his home in Lake Gardens Calcutta. When I went there again, I still felt His presence……..

Today I went to your house In the hope to see you there
I searched but could not find You, but something in the air
Took my heart and lifted me into that special place
Where I could feel Your warm embrace

Every room contained a memory so painful yet so sweet
I could not help but linger in the hope that we would meet
If I close my eyes I see that smile that time cannot erase
And I can feel Your endless Grace

Why did it take so long to see
That I’m in You and You’re in me

I looked up to the stairway where You often used to wait
And pretend that You were busy or that someone else was late
If I could just recall exactly how you said my name
Everything would be the same again

Why did it take so long to see
That I’m in You and You’re in me
Why did it take so long to see
That I’m in You and You’re in me
That I’m in You and You’re in me
That I’m in You and You’re in me

8. Kiirtan – No Distance
Baba Nam Kevalam is a spiritual chant, or ‘Kiirtan” – which means
that Everything is a manifestation of one cosmic consciousness, or,
more simply, Love is all there is. Singing or listening to kiirtan is a
wonderful way to prepare for meditation.

9. The Return of the Magic
© 1996 Dada Nabhaniilananda

It is becoming ever more evident that we live in a unique and dangerous period in history, one where we have the possibility of destroying ourselves and our world, or of attaining some measure of wisdom, and creating a civilization worthy of the name. I have this idea that the Creator of this world had some purpose, and that in this time of crisis we are already experiencing the awakening of a hidden benevloent power that will tip the balance, and ensure the salvation of our world.

Sitting on the broken steps of the earth
waking up the sleeping sky
It took a long time getting here,
I dont know why

Looking out on a strange and troubled world
Talking to the burning sea
I hope you're going to stay nearby
to comfort me

I remember the first promise
ever in the world
In the beginning all around was magic
shining like a sea of pearls

You opened new doorways,
smiling on the world
I beheld You in the heart of dreams
This time the magic will never die.

Ch With the return of the magic to this world,
We will run to you, and find hope again
With the return of the magic to this world,
We will love you, and shine again

Gazing out on a wild and stormy sea
There's a man in a boat and I wish it was me
Risking everything in order
to be free

You opened, new doorways,
shining on the world
I beheld you in the heart of dreams
this time the magic will never die

With the return of the magic to this world,
We can run to you, and find hope again
With the return of the magic to this world,
We can love you, and shine again

You opened, new doorways,
shining on the world
I beheld you in the heart of dreams
this time the magic will never die

With the return of the magic to this world,
We can run to you, and find hope again
With the return of the magic to this world,
We can love you, and shine again
